Halo 3

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Halo 3 just arrived at my doorstep (thanks, James!), and I’m gearing up for a night of gaming. I may even take an after-dinner nap. I’m trying to convince the old Rainbow team to buy 360s so that we can all play together, but no luck.

Also, I’m considering a month of gamefly in November so that I can catch up on some video games I’ve missed (Bioshock, Command and Conquer III, Metroid Prime 3, Super Paper Mario, etc.).

Beer Me, Link Me Thursdays: Self-Chilling Soda

I knew there had to be a good reason why Coca-Cola products are consistently more expensive than Pepsi Cola products, but I had no idea that the reason was so exciting! Coca-Cola has developed a process for self-chilling soda. Twist open the cap and a mechanism within the bottle of soda creates ‘ice’ from the soda itself!

Enjoy your soda, young padwan.

Heroes…

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Tried once again to watch Heroes; I have to say, I just don’t understand the fuss. And listen, I’m crazy about Invincible, Walking Dead, Fables, and Ultimate Anything. Please, if you’re a Heroes fan, convince me of its merit.

Jamie Oliver’s Tasty Fish Bake - Delicious

When I bought Jamie Oliver’s Family Cookbook, I did so because of the way he set up the first few chapters. Because I’m extra-interested in the way other people eat, I wanted to take a closer look at his top ten family dinners as well as the staple dishes (pesto, marinara sauce, etc.) he makes and uses in various ways.

Little did I realize that Tasty Fish Bake would be the best recipe in the collection. Give it a try - I use salmon and omit the fennel.

Beer Me, Link Me Thursdays: Geeking Out Library Style

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

The National Library of New Zealand ran a campaign titled, “In 2017, Libraries will be…” Like much user-contributed content, there are quite a few boring responses - no need to click through the entire flickr set. Still, it’s worth a look. Here are a few of my favorite contributions:

If I were to take a moment to think seriously about the future, I’d say that this entry comes closest to how I would have responded:

Let me be clear - it’s not that I think librarians are all forward-thinking individuals who specialize in predicting and then meeting future user needs. Let’s face it, had we been on our game, we wouldn’t have allowed a company like google to come onto the scene and achieve rampant success with the mission of “organizing the world’s information.” No, I’m a pessimist. If libraries are going to survive, they must be willing to tailor their services to meet immediate customer needs, regardless of what kind of information is being requested and regardless of what format the user wants.

Shaving

Monday, September 17th, 2007

I am not a fan of shaving, but I may try to become a straight razor kind of guy. Of course, this may also mean that I become a rush-me-to-the-hospital-because-my-carotid-artery-is-gushing-blood kind of guy.
